Discipline…

I saw this photo on Facebook the other day and had to grab a copy.  This mom has come up with an interesting way of disciplining her kiddos.  It looks to me like getting grounded doesn’t have an endpoint unless you work your way out of it.  I love that she’s getting housework done and teaching her kids that their behavior is in their hands, not hers.  As my kids are getting older, finding ways to discipline gets more challenging.  This caught my eye!  🙂

And, it made me think about discipline.  Often, we can get frustrated with our kiddos because they aren’t listening or obeying like we think they should.  I’ve found that when problems like this crop up, it’s usually because I’M not being disciplined!  My kids look to me for boundaries and for an example of what’s acceptable.  If I’m not paying attention or I’m distracted by whatever–a project, social media, a great book–that’s when they act out.

The younger your kids are, the more likely it is that their behavior is a cry for more attention from you.  But, even as kids get older, knowing you are there close by keeping an eye on things helps them to feel secure and keeps them from straying outside of the boundaries.

Interestingly, shortly after I saw this post, another one caught my eye.  If you haven’t seen this video, you should watch it.  We are so consumed by media today that we are missing the MOMENTS, even as we chase after every MINUTE.
