Born out of the author’s own experience caring for her dying parents, Sharing Christ with the Dying, by Melody Rossi, is a great resource for folks going through the difficult situation of caring for a loved one who is dying. According to Rossi, “The purpose of this book is to help you become an instrument through which God can minister to the spiritual needs of a dying person who does not yet know Him” (19).
The author’s own journey began when she had a prompting from the Holy Spirit to viist and pray with Mary–a friend of her parents. Though Mary was not religious at all, after Rossi prayed with her, she revealed that she had had a vision of Jesus and then accepted Christ as her Savior.
Rossi’s book addresses people who are dealing with the same type of situation–they know that their loved one is not spiritually ready to die, and they don’t know what to do about it. By sharing her own stories of loss (Rossi lost her mother, father, and stepmother within 28 months of each other and helped each of them find Christ), Rossi is able to help readers through the same situation.
Through the book, she gives readers encouragement that God will equip them for the task, while also giving practical advice for what to say and do. She even covers things like the physical signs of death and how to make arrangements–things that most people are not prepared for. I love that she also reminds the reader to take care of him/herself–self-care and getting help are covered. Finally, she offers great resources in the appendix.
This is an amazing resource–the author’s compassion and experience really do feel like she is reaching out directly to the reader in a face to face conversation.
