Picking mulberries with my brother and sister is one of my favorite childhood memories. We would head over to my mom’s friend’s house and pick berries until our fingers (and our lips) were stained purple. (Apparently, you can remove the mulberry stains by crushing unripe mulberries!)
We are so blessed to live next door to my mom’s friend, and we, too, have some beautiful mulberry trees on our property. Unfortunately, our trees are fairly young, and the berries they produce just don’t compare.
Thankfully, our wonderful neighbors are happy to let us pick their mulberries! This is one of H’s favorite activities!
This season, we have already canned a few pints of jam and made a mulberry pie. (Tasted just like the ones my mom used to make!) Today, I spent the day using up the wonderful mulberries we picked yesterday and this morning. It was amazing that the berries that were not quite ready yesterday were perfectly ripe today! Four cups of berries makes about four pints of jam.
Today I used this recipe that I found on Pinterest from SimpleatHome.com. I love that I can fairly quickly make up a few pints of jam as the berries are ready–it just seems less overwhelming than spending the whole day canning!
I have to give a little shout out to all of my Pampered Chef friends because this recipe was made possible by Pampered Chef tools. 😉
I also tried my hand at making scones. I have never made scones before, but I love them. I followed this recipe by The Italian Next Door, also found on Pinterest.
When I followed the direction to make eight scones, they just seemed huge, so I cut them in half.
I’m glad I did–they baked up to about double their original size. And they are amazing!
Now I suppose I should get back to grading papers. 😉 Have a great Father’s Day weekend, everyone!
