She gets into the minds of her suspects by having imaginary conversations with them. Driven by her need to understand the motivations of the serial killers she is tasked with profiling, Kaely has become known as one of the best in the nation, in spite of her strange methods. After almost getting herself killed in the first book because she let her emotions get in the way of IDing the correct suspect, Kaely is not only doubting herself, but she also finds herself wondering if she’s gone too far with her unique methods.

In this book, Kaely is supposed to be on vacation, but when fires start burning down homes in her mother’s community, she spots a pattern and begins her own investigation. Her partner, Noah, joins her, and, together, they uncover an unlikely suspect.  Along the way, Noah and Kaely work to navigate their growing feelings for each other…and Kaely must decide if she can fully trust Noah will all of her secrets. At the same time, Kaely must find her way in her own family relationships, which have been strained for years.

I really enjoyed the mystery in this book. It definitely kept me on my toes! Despite the intensity of the plot, I love that Kaely works through her emotions and her investigation with faith in God. She isn’t perfect, and she makes mistakes, which makes her character seems all the more real.
