Seeing the Voice of God

I grew up hearing stories about my parents’ dreams. Here are a few examples…

My mom was resting, thinking about a yard sale and trying to sell a stereo.  She envisioned a man coming to buy the stereo and the conversation they would have.  The next day, a man came, they had the same conversation, almost verbatim, that she had envisioned, and he bought the stereo.

My dad dreamed very rarely…and usually what he dreamed happened.  When I was really little, my parents were looking for a church and my dad had a very vivid dream.  That Sunday, the pastor of the church they were visiting said that he had had a strange dream and that he would share it the following Sunday.  When he did…it was exactly the same dream my Dad had had.

Needless to say, I pay attention to my dreams.  I don’t think that every dream means something.  And I definitely don’t put stock into the ‘dream dictionaries’ that you can find online.  So, when I saw Seeing the Voice of God:  What God is Telling You Through Dreams & Visions, by Laura Harris Smith, I had to check it out.

Laura Harris Smith begins the book by sharing her own experiences with dreams and visions and giving the reader a biblical basis for the idea that God speaks to us through dreams.  As the book goes on,  Smith weaves together her personal experience, biblical foundations, and scientific studies to support her teaching.  The reader will discover different types of dreams and visions, ways to remember dreams, a guide to interpretation based on the Bible, and some solid guidelines for keeping your interpretations focused on God and Scripture.

I found this book to be a fun read.  It’s very informative and thought provoking.  Some of the medical chapters weren’t as interesting to me, but I learned a lot about sleep and dreams.  I highly recommend this book if you are someone who would like to know more about dreams and visions and how God still speaks to us today through them.
