Jesus Talked to Me Today

I have always loved hearing stories about people’s experiences with God. Though miracles aren’t necessary for faith, it is important to believe that God is real and powerful and that He continues to act in our world. My Dad used to tell amazing stories, and I love listening to missionaries share their experiences. So, when I saw this book, I imagined it would be something really cool for my kids to read.

Basically, Jesus Talked to Me Today is a compilation of stories of various people’s encounters with God.From the font of the title to the picture on the front cover to the subtitle, “True Stories of Children’s Encounters with Angels, Miracles, and God,” I expected the book to be about children’s experiences with God. However, most of the stories in the book were written by adults either talking about their experiences with children or remembering their own childhood experiences.

Some of the stories are truly miraculous accounts of healing and seeing angels. Others are not as moving–someone finds a verse at the right time, etc. However, every story has touched the life of the person who told it and made God real to them. And I think that is the point. God doesn’t speak to all of us in the same way, and something that may seem mundane to one person is life changing to another.

While the book may not be all that I hoped, it is still an interesting read.
