The 100 Most Encouraging Verses of the Bible

I send a LOT of cards. You could say that I’m a Level 4 card sender–I probably average more than a card a day. It’s one of the ways that I show love to the people I care about. And, though I’ve gotten pretty good at figuring out what to say, I still often find myself searching for that perfect encouraging verse that will make a difference for someone going through a tough time. So, when I saw The 100 Most Encouraging Verses of the Bible by Troy Schmidt, I thought it would be right up my alley!

However…the book isn’t quite what I expected–it’s definitely not the categorized list of verses I thought I was choosing. Instead, the author takes a different approach. Starting in Genesis and going through to Revelation, he’s chosen the 100 verses that he thinks best show the love of God for us–the verses that are the most encouraging overall in every situation. Schmidt organizes his book almost like a devotional, with the verse at the top and a short devotional style reading about the verse that gives context for the verse and ideas for applying it the midst of life.

While the book wasn’t what I expected, I still find it to be inspirational. The author encapsulates the theme and the mission of the book in the introduction as follows:  “God loves you, He cares, and he can do something Maybe not right now, but sometime…sooner or later. In the meantime, he offers encouragement through His word…” (7) If you’re a human being in need of encouragement, you might want to pick up a copy of this book–maybe use it as a devotional for a few months. 🙂
