We have an enormous (more than two stories tall!) apricot tree that has produced the most amazing apricots for us for the two years we’ve lived here. Since the tree is so old, I have been researching ways to propagate it. I know we can just buy new trees, but there’s something about helping this tree live on that is so appealing.
So this year, I saved several seeds and, following this method, I just put them in a ziploc with moist soil and left them in the refrigerator for a few months. I checked a few weeks ago–roots!
So I transplanted about half of the rooted seeds and put them on my windowsill. Just a few days later, about half of them have sprouted! I’m hoping to have some nice, strong saplings to plant this coming spring.
