Somehow I had some extra time on my hands this weekend–enough time to do a little sewing!
My hubby built me an amazing space for sewing and crafting, but I noticed that my machines stick to the painted surface. So I made some mats so I can easily slide them forward when they are in use.
For the mats, I used a fat quarter and a very thin layer of batting. Folded in half, the fat quarters are the perfect size! I laid the fat quarter down wrong side up, laid batting on one side, folded over the other side, and used my server to finish the edges. So easy!
While I was at it, I made some matching machine covers. Now I know there are patterns out there, but I like to do things quickly. I chose my fabrics and cut 54 4″ squares. The front, top, and back are four squares across and three squares high. The two sides are three squares across and three squares high.
I sewed the front, top, and back separately and then sewed them together first. Then I attached the sides. I finished the bottom edge with the server. The same pattern fit both my old Elna and my serger!
