My latest BookSneeze selection is a fun novella by Denise Hunter called A December Bride.  The book follows the misadventures of a designer named Layla O’Reilly who is trying to start a business.  She’s successfully staged a few houses for friends, and the word is getting out about what she can do.  But she’s looking for her big break.

When the book begins, she’s also looking for a date to her ex-fiance’s wedding.  He’s marrying her cousin, Jennifer, who finds pleasure in making Layla feel the way she looks at herself–like the girl from the wrong side of the tracks.  In a quirky twist, the man Layla wrongly blames for breaking up her happy relationship, her ex-fiance’s best friend, Seth Murphy, volunteers to be her date.  Even better, Murphy has been hiding his true feelings for Layla for years.

So, when he announces their ‘engagement’ (and a wedding date just six weeks away!) at the wedding in an effort to save Layla’s pride, the two find themselves in an interesting predicament.  Seth is in heaven and hopes that he can make Layla love him, and Layla sees a way to use Seth’s connections to help her own career.  This is a fun and quirky book and I enjoyed reading it.  🙂
