Dee Henderson is one of my favorite authors.  She combines faith, adventure, mystery, romance…all in an intelligent way that never fails to capture my attention!  I also really love how her books often intertwine, with a character from another novel connected to the current one.

In this case, one of the main characters, Commander Mark Bishop, is the brother of the main character from Unspoken.  Bishop is the Commander of The Nevada, a submarine carrying nuclear missiles and charged with protecting the United States.  He’s decided that he’s ready for a wife.

At the same time, Gina Gray, Bishop’s best friend’s little sister, is on the same mission.  Coming out of a rough breakup, Gray decides to head out to her brother’s house in Washington to recover and ask for his assistance finding a husband.  As silly as it sounds, Henderson’s writing adds a level of gravity to the plot; this isn’t just about two people looking for romance…they are two people looking for a partner for life.

Though they don’t at first seem to suit each other, Mark and Gina, who is a genius changing the way submarines respond to world crisis, find that they work well together, trust each other, and have fun together.  In the end, they have to decide whether they are right for each other.

Unlike the last few novels I’ve read from Dee Henderson, this one didn’t have the same level of danger and suspense, which I actually enjoyed for a change.  I didn’t like the addition of another love interest for Gina in the middle of the book…it just didn’t seem to belong there.  The dynamics between Gina and Mark were interesting enough without the added situation.  Also, Bishop comes up with a pet name for Gina, Precious, that drove me bonkers.  Not only did it not seem the type of name to suit an adult, but every time he said it, I heard gollum from Lord of the Rings whispering, “Preciousssss.”  😉

Overall, though, I did enjoy the book.
