My First Hands-on Bible

Megan has been the recipient of several Bibles over the course of her 9 years, but the boys have been resigned to her old copies.  Tristan got a really cool comic book Bible for Easter, and he’ll get a kids version like Megan’s soon (probably for Christmas).  So, when I had the opportunity to review the My First Hands-on Bible for preschoolers, I jumped on the opportunity.  Finally, a Bible for Josyan!

The My First Hands-on Bible is designed for preschoolers, probably up through 1st grade.  About 2nd grade, my kids usually want a “real” Bible that matches what they are reading in class.  The Bible includes 85 stories in the New Living Translation, along with illustrations, “Jesus Connections,” and activities and games.

I love this Bible!  Most of the preschool “Bibles” are not really Bibles at all, but story books with pictures.  The Hands-on Bible does have lots of fun pictures, but it also has the actual Bible verses–numbered and everything in the NLT–not just paraphrased.  I love that I can read Josyan the real Bible story and still have the great illustrations.

Other fun features of the My-First Hands-on Bible include simple prayers, talking points, ways to apply the story, and games.  Many of the talking points are centered on issues preschoolers can appreciate–sharing, keeping promises, being brave, etc.  These are great conversation starters to get little ones thinking about what the story means to them.  And the activities are easy to do, even for the busiest parent, like “Fish Tag” to go along with the story of Jonah or the Bible hunt–which is a picture hunt right in the Bible.  No extra supplies necessary!

Josyan loves having his own Bible, and I love that his Bible is a lot closer to the “grown-up” version.  I’m looking forward to spending more time with him talking about the stories.  I think his older siblings will enjoy it, too!
