Samaritan Ministries

Screen shot 2012-08-15 at 3.06.53 PMWith all of the hullabaloo about the Obamacare website and requirements going into effect this year, I wanted to take a minute to fill you in on a great organization that my family loves!  Samaritan Ministries is a Christian needs sharing organization that works by sharing the needs of the group with others.  Instead of paying an insurance premium every month, we send our ‘share’ to the family indicated in our monthly newsletter.

We pay less than $400 a month for our entire family (that includes a ‘save to share’ portion to help with bills over $100,000).  When we have a ‘need’–when the boys were born, etc–we send off the bills to Samaritan Ministries.  They then assign our ‘need’ to other members and send it out in the next month’s newsletter.  We start receiving checks shortly after that from members around the country–and most of those checks come with encouraging notes and prayers for our family.  When needs are over a certain amount, Samaritan provides a service that helps you to decrease the totals of the bills.  Often, when we tell doctors that we are paying in cash, they will give us a discount.  We haven’t had to submit needs often in the past 10+ years, but our bills have been paid in full every time.

It’s a blessing to know that we are exempt from the insurance requirement because of our participation with Samaritan Ministries.  Even better, we know that our monthly shares are not being used to fund abortion, etc.  It feels great to know that we are helping families just like ours with our pocketbook and our prayers.  If you are looking for an alternative to Obamacare and/or high priced insurance, you might want to check out Samaritan Ministries.
