Dee Henderson’s signature combination of faith, romance, and suspense has made her one of my favorite authors. Her O’Malley series is one of my all-time favorites, but I’ve read every one of her novels.
Taken is her latest expedition, and it’s a great book, though not my favorite. Matthew Dane is an agent whose own daughter was kidnapped and then recovered. He understands the mind of a victim and the challenges he/she will have on re entering society.
It’s no wonder Shannon Bliss, a woman who’s been in captivity since the age of 16, would seek Dane out to aid her own return home. After a kidnapping gone wrong, Shannon has spent her time in captivity being forced to assist a crime family, all the while plotting and planning for her escape.
When Matthew meets Shannon, they both must confront their own expectations about the situation as they work together to figure out who planned Shannon’s kidnapping and find a way to capture the criminals involved.
As always, Henderson presents the reader with masterful dialog and character development. I enjoyed the story line and the gradual uncovering of the truth. However, I was disappointed by the lack of excitement. Unlike most of her other novels, there doesn’t seem to be much of an element of danger or suspense. It’s an interesting story…just not a very exciting one.
