A Note Yet Unsung is the latest in Tamara Alexander’s Belmont Mansion series. As in the other books, A Lasting Impression and  A Beauty So Rare, this novel is about a talented young woman trying to find her way in a world in which women’s talents are not valued.

Rebekah Carrington has spent the last 10 years abroad in Vienna studying music. As the governess and assistant of the orchestra conductor there, she has learned much about music, but the beauty of her talent stems from the careful instruction of her old friend Demetrius, who was a slave at her parents’ plantation.

When Rebekah’s grandmother dies, Rebekah is summoned home to an uncertain future. Unable to stay at her mother’s home for fear of her step-father, Rebekah immediately searches for work. After being denied a position in the Nashville orchestra, she applies for a position as governess for the indomitable Adelicia Cheatham. Instead, she finds herself tutoring Adelicia’s young daughter in violin while assisting the maestro, Nathaniel Whitcomb, with his life’s work–his symphony.

As Rebekah and Tate learn to get along and appreciate the talents of the other, they are drawn together. When Rebekah is accidentally made privy to Tate’s secret, they become even closer. As they work together to protect each other and to help each other fulfill their dreams, they find that doing their best for God and listening to Him works for their best always.

This is a wonderful story that I could not put down! Not only is the story itself engaging and the characters wonderfully developed, but I love the gentle presence of scripture throughout the book. I highly recommend the latest from Alexander!
