Dee Henderson is one of my all-time favorite authors. Her books are a great combination of intelligence, wit, danger, mystery, and faith. I love her new Evie Blackwell Cold Case series. The first book, Traces of Guilt, was pretty heavy. The latest in the series, Threads of Suspicion, is just a good, but not quite as hard on the heart.

In this book, the newly formed Cold Case team chooses a county in Illinois to begin their investigations and the team breaks off to work on locating the missing people from that county. Evie and one of her partners, David Miller, choose two of the more difficult cases–a missing college student and a missing PI.

As the investigation continues, the paths of their missing persons connect in interesting ways that have the two often working together. When Evie’s case takes a personal turn with an unexpected and disturbing connection with David’s fiancee, the two work frantically to catch a serial killer.

One of the ways Evie works through discovering what happened is by coming up with multiple possibilities and determining what scenario is most likely. Though the potential for a situation like the missing police officer in the first book was investigated, thankfully the outcome, though just as sad, was not quite as heart-rending.

Like Dee’s other books, you can expect a thought-provoking thriller with a little bit of romance and a lot of faith. Dee uncovers the thought process behind catching a killer and finding a missing person, as well as the trails one must take to discover faith and love.

Some might find the extensive dialogue and digging into each person’s thoughts and histories to be a bit cumbersome, but the story is intriguing and the characters are interesting, intelligent, and thoughtful people who I love getting to know.

I couldn’t put this book down and finished it in one day. This is definitely another great read for summer!
