Traces of Guilt

Dee Henderson is one of my favorite authors, so I am always excited to see a new book come out! Traces of Guilt is subtitled An Evie Blackwell Cold Case, so I hope that means this is the first of a new series!

In the novel, the state of Illinois is launching a new task force with a mission to solve the unsolved crimes across the state. Evie Blackwell, a police detective, has been chosen to be the head of the new task force. She begins with a couple of cold cases in the small town of Carin. One is a small girl who was abducted and never found, and the other a police officer and his whole family who disappeared inexplicably.

When Blackwell arrives, she begins working with the town sheriff, Gabriel Thane, whose family has been in the town and in law enforcement for years. As they work together to provide answers to the families of the missing people, the two form a friendship that may or may not ever lead into something deeper.

As always, Henderson intertwines faith, romance, and mystery together in this great novel. I love that she connects the current story to some of my favorite characters from her other novels. These connections make the stories feel all the more real and add depth to the characters. Even though I did NOT like the resolution to either of the cold cases, the investigation is intriguing, and I really enjoyed meeting the new characters. I’m hoping Henderson finds more cold cases for Evie to investigate!
