Caught by Surprise

I love the title of Jen Turano’s new book, Caught by Surprise, and it arrived on the perfect day–a day when our family was caught by surprise by a crazy monsoon storm that had power lines shooting sparks! We were asked to leave our house because the authorities were afraid the lines were going to start arcing…and this picture is what I grabbed. My purse, the book that just arrived in the mail, my laptop, and extra clothes for my toddler. The bare necessities! lol

Caught by Surprise is the latest in Jen Turano‘s Apart from the Crowd Series, which also includes Behind the Scenes , Out of the Ordinary, and the novella At Your Request (which you can read for free on Kindle!). Though you don’t have to read all the books in order to enjoy them, I highly recommend it!

In this latest novel, readers are introduced to Temperance Flowerdew–the real Temperance Flowerdew. Until she met her old childhood friend, Gilbert Cavindish, at a dance (in Out of the Ordinary), Temperance has been living up to her name–calmly subordinating herself to others to keep the peace and accept her new lot in life as an orphan without funds living with somewhat odious relatives.

The beginning of this book finds Temperance being abducted and shoved into a coffin–only to be deposited at a hotel in Chicago, where Gilbert finds her. As Temperance and Gilbert work to find out who is behind what appears to be a matchmaking scheme gone wrong, both find themselves under fire, quite literally. With both of their lives in danger, Temperance and Gilbert must work together to find truth…and somewhere along the way, these childhood friends uncover the truth about how they feel about each other, too.

Caught by the Surprise does not disappoint. With fun and highjinks typical of Jen’s books, readers are also carried along on a journey of self-discovery and faith that adds depth and insight to the laugh out loud comical situations and riveting danger the characters find themselves in. The ending of this book may catch you by surprise, as well–I know that I had tears in my eyes!

I highly recommend this book!
