The One Year Devo for Teen Girls

One of my favorite “jobs” in ministry was to lead the teen girls’ Bible study.  It is such a blessing to be able to work with young women–to encourage them to stay strong in their convictions and to focus on their purpose!  Even though I’m not leading a Bible study or even working with teens right now, I still keep my eyes open for great resources.

When I had the opportunity to review the new One Year Devo for Teen Girls by Dannah Gresh & Suzy Weibel, I jumped on it!  I’m so excited to share this review with you, in part because it is a team effort!  Since Megan is not quite old enough for this devotional, I asked my cousin Mary, who is 17, to help me with her own opinion of the devotional.

My perspective:

As a huge fan of the One Year Bible, I love this format.  No matter when you pick up this devotional, you have a starting point!  If you get off track, that’s ok–you can pick it right back up again!

Each devotion begins with a verse.  The devotion then asks the reader to apply the verse to her own life.  That is so key–not just what the Word says, but how the Word makes sense in MY life!  Third, the devotions include an action step, giving girls some ideas for taking action on what they’ve learned.

The book covers a range of issues applicable to the lives of teens & also includes a topical index if they are searching for help in a specific area.  Topics include abuse, anger, boys, depression, and even exercise!  In the introduction, the authors include a great message to the reader, “Each month tackles a different issue you come face to face with as followers of Christ…Are you ready to be stretched? …the race is up to you.  Persevere.”  I especially love this because the authors are reaching out to the girls NOT just as girls, but as followers of Christ who  must make their own stand for Him!

Overall, I really like the formal of this devotional.  Getting in the habit of reading scripture every day is so vital–and it will hopefully initiate a lifelong love of the Bible.  Dannah & Suzy are honest and open and get to the hear of some touch topics.  They give godly advice that girls need to hear from an outside word without sounding preachy.  I would have loved this as a teen, and this is one of the devotionals I’ll have ready for Megan when she reaches those tough teen years.

Mary’s Insight:

Devos for Teen Girls by Dannah Gresh and Suzy Weibel is a great step-by-step guide for getting through everyday life and learning more about God. Dannah and Suzy use personal stories for the devotional topics which makes living a godly life relatable.

While reading these devotions, I noticed how the way the authors portrayed the topics made me feel as if I was actually talking to someone about their life. Because of that, I think that this devotion is a good choice for mothers to do with their teenage daughters.

I love the way that the authors set up each day. They take a scripture and break it down so that you finish the reading feeling like you completely understand what God meant by the verse and you will be able to apply it to your daily life. Dannah and Suzy make it clear- seeking God will solve every problem.

Welcome!
