Bittersweet Surrender

Carly Westlake is living her dream–running a chocolate spa in her hometown combines her love for beauty and chocolate. The problem for Carly, whose husband left her during her recovery from breast cancer, is that her love for chocolate keeps adding inches to her waistline. Added to her personal dilemma, is a business one. Carly’s booming business can’t seem to turn a profit.

Her business partner, Tom, whose wife (and Carly’s best friend) died in a car accident, takes on Carly as a special project–both in uncovering the reason for the lack of proceeds at the spa and as her personal coach when she determines to lose those inches before her teen crush arrives in town. They are both in for a surprise as they learn that sometimes things aren’t all they appear to be.

Bittersweet Surrender has an interesting plot line, with plenty of intrigue, though it is sometimes predictable. The book was slow reading, but I kept going to find out what happens at the end. I like the focus on trusting God and forgiveness throughout the book. It’s worth a read if you have time on your hands, but this isn’t one of my favorites.
