The Brickmaker’s Bride

I always enjoy Judith Miller‘s novels, and this one is no exception.  The Brickmaker’s Bride follows the love story of Ewan McKay and Laura Woodfield.  Ewan McKay and his uncle have purchased the brickmaking business owned by Laura’s father prior to his death.  Ewan works hard to make the business a success so that he can become a full partner in the business and earn enough money to bring his sisters to America from Ireland.

Though Laura is being courted by a lawyer, Ewan feels a connection with her and appreciates her love for and knowledge of the brick business.  Unfortunately, Ewan’s uncle is not the most honest man, nor the best businessman, and Ewan finds himself struggling to make a success of the business. Poor decisions made by Ewan’s uncle quickly have the business in danger of foreclosure, and Laura and her mother step in to help.

This is a great story that really is about choosing to do the right thing, no matter what. There are some interesting twists and turns, and I enjoyed the characters.  Great read.
